The covid vaccination drive started in India on January 16th and tour PM Narendra Modi Ji inaugurated the launch event. Since then, lakhs of the priority group members have been vaccinated throughout the country. But a few cases of casualties have also been reported by far that has sent down a fearful thought on the mind of the people who are on the vaccination list. One such incident occurred in Telangana where a 55-year-old woman healthcare professional died 11 days after receiving the covid vaccine.
Two more deaths occurred in the state after vaccine administration
The woman who hails from Kasipet in the Mancherial district of north Telangana received the vaccine 11 days before her demise. She complained of shortness of breath and giddiness when she was taken to a private hospital for treatment. After one day she was referred to Hyderabad’s NIMS where she died at around 11 PM. Two more such deaths have been reported in Telangana where a 42-year-old ambulance driver and a 45-year-old healthcare worker died after receiving the covid vaccine. They received the vaccine on the same date, i.e., 19th January and the ambulance driver died one day after getting the vaccine where the healthcare worker died on 23d January.
Doctors deny any kind of linkage
Though the death of the 55-year-old woman worker occurred after 11 days of being vaccinated, the doctors in charge of her said that there is no linkage between her death and the covid vaccine. “It has come to the notice of the undersigned that she expired at about 11 PM on 30.1.2021 at NIMS. The cause of death is clearly indicative of underlying morbidities and not due to COVID vaccination”, said a doctor from NIMS. he further added, “Death occurred due to Cardio-Respiratory arrest triggered by multiple morbidities such as Kyphoscoliosis with restrictive lung disease, respiratory infection with type 2 respiratory failure, accelerated hypertension with left ventricular failure”.
Public health experts sent a notice to the union health ministry regarding the vaccine death issue
With the rise of as many as 11 details throughout the country after the administration of the covid vaccine, public health experts question the role of the union health ministry in the effectiveness of the vaccine. They have sent a notice to the department which says, “Though the district or state officials have stated that none of the deaths are related to the vaccine, the reports of the district, state, and National Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) Committees on the assessment of these deaths and other serious AEFIs have not been released. No details of who investigated the deaths, and the methodology used for each investigation, have been made public. The national committee has an obligation to investigate possible patterns in causative factors for these deaths”.
In the letter it has been further added, “We would like to bring to your notice that the 11 deaths meet the WHO’s definition of a ‘cluster’ of serious AEFIs as given in its Covid-19 vaccines: safety surveillance manual — ‘when two or more AEFIs related in time, place or by vaccine occur’. (1) Guidelines for the investigation of cluster AEFIs are given in the WHO’s global manual for surveillance of adverse events following immunization. (2) AEFIs must be investigated urgently in order to issue warnings to people who should not take it due to contraindications, to correct errors, to reassure the public, as well as to identify potentially serious problems in the vaccine”.
The PolicyTimes suggestion
- After the deaths are being reported, the effectiveness of the vaccine becomes questionable. The government and the vaccine producers could have waited for a few more months before approving it so that its effectiveness could be understood well.
- There is also negligence in part of the ones who are administering these vaccines as some predominant health complications can cause such deaths and so, before administering the vaccine, a proper health checkup must be made mandatory to avoid further such casualties.
