A new scheme for the recovery of people that are into begging and for giving support to the transgender section was expected to be declared soon, according to a statement on Thursday by the Union Social and Empowerment Ministry.

The Ministry stated it had made an umbrella scheme, SMILE (Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise), that even includes 2 sub-schemes for the wellbeing of people engaged in begging and for the transgender people. The scheme is bound to cover rehabilitation, counseling, provision of medical facilities, skill development, education, and economic linkages.
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan which was launched as a part of the national-drug campaign in 2020, the Ministry stated that it had planned to state 100 districts as “drug sensitized districts” soon.
