In a shocking turn of events for the Unnao rape survivor’s, who is now fighting for her life following a fatal road accident near Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, letter for the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi reached 18-days late.
Gogoi said he hasn’t received any such letter but was informed about it on Tuesday. He asked the court’s Registrar General, Sanjeev S. Kalgoankar to carry out investigations into the stated ‘important’ letter’s delay. Moreover, taking suo motu of the letter, the Supreme Court will hear this matter on Thursday.
The rape survivor, in 2018, had accused a four-time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA, Kuldeep Singh Sengar for raping her. She alleged the politician and his aides had raped her when she went to him for a job in 2017. Following this, the MLA was suspended from the party. Her letter, according to The Hindu, narrates the incidents of July 7 – 8 when some people allegedly associated with Sengar threatened her family with dire consequences. It also sought FIR to be filed against the persons.
Reports states that the letter signed by the rape survivor, her mother and aunt brings to the fore that Naveen Singh, the accused’s son, Shashi Singh, Manoj Singh who is the brother of another accused, and a Kunnu Mishra visited their house on July 7 and threatened them. The men threatened the 19-year-old girl that a judge would be bought by them who would ensure bail for Kuldeep and Shashi. They also threatened her that false cases would be lodged against her.
In April this year, the rape survivor’s mother had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to transfer the case from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi. More than a year has passed since the registration of the case, but a trial hasn’t even started due to confusion of a CBI led court or a special court setup by lawmakers, and there is no judge. The case has gotten muckier as the girl awaits justice.
