On April 7, John Kerry stated that on the global stage, India is a major player and the decisive action from India will determine what the transformation will mean for all the generations to come. He also said that promoting women’s leadership is not only critical for economic growth but also essential in tackling the climate crisis.
Why India is Considered as a Major Player on The Global Stage?
India is a major player on the global stage due to its efforts in the transition of renewable energy. Kerry said, “India is indisputably a world leader already in the deployment of renewable energy and its leadership of the international solar alliance promises to advance clean energy across India and other dynamic growing economies around the world”. He further stated that “A zero-emissions future offers a huge opportunity for business and economic growth as the world recovers from Covid-19“. Kerry also emphasized that decisive actions taken by the Modi government may lead to a huge generation of jobs in the sector.

US Special Envoy’s Visit to India
John Kerry’s visit to India is an indication of the commitment of Biden’s administration to prioritize climate change policy. Reportedly, India is considered joining over a hundred other countries in pledging to net-zero emissions by 2050. It is also thought that the green financing model could be a key to ‘nudging’ India to declare more ambitious targets at the Conference of Parties (CoP) 26 in the UK later this year.
