Who is Fighting Corruption for Poor?

The presumption that BJP and Congress are the well-wishers of the poorer section of the society is baseless and vague as evident from the current verdict in the case of highly publicized 2G Scam .

Special Court Acquits All Parties in 2G Scam!
Special Court Acquits All Parties in 2G Scam!

The special court dealing with the 2G spectrum allocation scam cases acquitted all parties that have been accused in the case. The people that have been acquitted include former telecom minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi, Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura, Raja’s erstwhile private secretary R K Chandolia, Swan Telecom promoters Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka, Unitech Ltd MD Sanjay Chandra and three top executives of Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (RADAG) — Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair.

The court has held that the prosecution “miserably failed” to prove the charges. The charge of CBI has been that there was a loss of Rs 30,984 crore to the exchequer in allocation of licenses for the 2G spectrum. Later, on 2nd February, 2012 the top court scrapped the licenses for the 2G spectrum. In another case filed by Enforcement Directorate under the money laundering law arising out of the 2G scam, daughter of DMK supremo M Karunanidhi and Raja were also let off.

ED also named the wife of DMK supremo M Karunanidhi, Dayalu Ammal in its charge sheet. She has allegedly being the recipient of Rs.200 crore being paid by Swan Telecom (P) Ltd (STPL) promoters to DMK-run Kalaignar TV. Along with them, 16 others including Shahid Balwa and Vinod Goenka of STPL, Asif Balwa and Rajiv Aggarwal of Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd, film producer Karim Morani, P Amirtham and Sharad Kumar, Director of Kalaignar TV were also acquitted in the money laundering case.

There are two ways of looking at this historic court verdict. The first or the more straight forward aspect of it is that UPA government has been falsely fabricated by CBI and that these people have been victim of false allegation. However, delving deeper one should question about the ability of the hapless government lawyer who was fighting against so many and so powerful people. It can be easily construed that he is up against a Goliath and has got very little chance to win. This leads to the second corollary that why the ruling BJP allowed it to happen? The answer this is simple: BJP also have end number of corrupt people and if Congress comes to power in the future it could have been possible that Modi along with his team goes behind bars! It is a winking relationship between major political parties which means ‘You don’t step into my shoes, and won’t be to yours..! This saga is continuing for last 70 years and counting! In between debate continues endlessly in media and among the common people.
