WICCI Rural Tourism Council Completes Ten Episodes of Its Exclusive Web-Talk Series With The Policy Times

October 25, 2021, marks the tenth episode of The Policy Times’ exclusive web-talk show with the Rural Tourism Council of WICCI (Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry). The Rural Tourism series was inaugurated on August 16 with an episode featuring the National President of the council, Sahana Ahmed, and the Vice President, Anuradha.

Thanking The Policy Times, Ms. Anuradha said, “It was quite enriching to be a part of the inaugural session and to share my thoughts on the vision and mission of the council. The talk was led by the National President of the council, Ms. Sahana Ahmed, who has been working tirelessly towards the mission of the council since its inception in July 2021.”

The vision of the WICCI Rural Tourism Council is to have a positive impact on rural tourism in India by fostering networks for collaborations and capacity building. The mission is to promote and advance the sector through skill development initiatives, business networking, and recommendations to relevant authorities.

Ms. Anuradha added, “As National Vice President of the council, I am thankful to Mr. Akram Hoque for collaborating with the WICCI Rural Tourism Council and providing us the platform to share our views on different thematic areas of Rural Tourism.”

Akram Hoque, Founder Editor of The Policy Times, said, “One of our aims has been to promote women entrepreneurship. When Sahana Ahmed proposed WICCI Rural Tourism Council to be our partner, we thought this will help us contribute in that direction. Rural tourism of India is something that has unparalleled potential. I found WICCI selecting this sector means they genuinely want to contribute in nation-building. It needs immense hard work and the way the Rural Tourism Council is emerging as an influential platform, I am very hopeful.”

The show was designed to highlight various focus areas of the council. These included spiritual, cultural, culinary, and adventure tourism, along with episodes highlighting academia and industry collaboration and tourism in northeast India. The council was represented by Sahana Ahmed, Anuradha, Lakshmi Sharath, Dharna Shukla, Loretta Nadar, Soma Dutta, Dr. Sheeba Hamid, Dr. Sindhu R. Babu, Mini Ribeiro, Sanhita D. Sensarma, Somali Panda, Dr. Kamakshi Maheshwari, Ishani Priyadarshini Sinha, Shabnam Jana, Sonali Soni Pal, Sanchaita Pradhan Khajuria, Rashmi Singh, Priya Anand, Sanjibita McDonald Tariang Sen, and Kavya Saxena.

Dr. P. Sekhar, Chairman of Global Smart Cities Panel and Micro-Tech Global Foundation, moderated five episodes of the show. “It is very nice to see the great work done by WICCI and the Rural Tourism Council of this association. I had the privilege of coordinating a number of web sessions, and the people who are there are highly devoted to the national cause in terms of bringing tourism to the global frontier. They are doing a very good job,” he concluded.
